Problem Definition

How can I see how much activity is being handled by PortalGuard?

Solution

The most important metric of load on PortalGuard is the number of actions being handled. The number of users isn't as critical since user behavior differs by environment, but the queries below will show how to display user metrics that as well.

To determine either of these, you must have enabled 'Report Data Collection' in the 'Log/Audit' tab of the Bootstrap configuration. This captures each action and logs it to the RBAEvents table in the pstar SQL database.

Once the data exists in SQL, it can be queried as follows (be sure to precede each statement below with the use pstar; directive):

Actions Per Day

SELECT convert(date, created) as [Date], COUNT(*) AS [dailyActions] FROM RBAEvents GROUP BY convert(date, created);

Average Actions Per Day

SELECT AVG(dailyActions) AS dailyAverageActions FROM (SELECT convert(date, created) as [Date], COUNT(*) AS [dailyActions] FROM RBAEvents GROUP BY convert(date, created)) as A;

Unique Users Each Day

SELECT convert(date, created) as [Date], COUNT(DISTINCT(Uname)) AS [dailyUsers] FROM RBAEvents GROUP BY convert(date, created);

Average Daily Users

SELECT AVG(dailyUsers) AS dailyAverageUsers FROM (SELECT convert(date, created) as [Date], COUNT(DISTINCT(Uname)) AS [dailyUsers] FROM RBAEvents GROUP BY convert(date, created)) as A;
