PistolStar, Inc. engineers have released PortalGuard v5.6 that introduces several new updates! With new feature requests from customers as well as changes in government regulations, we are determined to keep PortalGuard an up to date leader in password security management.

User Interface: WCAG 2.0, Level AA

The first major update is underlying structure of its user-facing web pages to better adhere to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Level AA. This standard addresses the accessibility of the content when accessed by users with disabilities. The change affects the use of the assistive technology ranging from zooming the page by using browsers’ built-in zoom functions to employing screen readers to audibly reflect the instructions and controls on the page. PortalGuard, is a cost effective solution to ensure you conform and meet all government guidelines.

Announcements:

The next major change update is the feature “Announcements” is now available to you. Organizations can put vital information in front of web-based end-users during login through PortalGuard and certain SSO activities after authentication has been completed. Announcements can be created to start and stop automatically at set dates & times. Announcements may also be targeted to only appear to specific groups or organizational units within your environment.

The available options include:
  •  Specific SSO Application – For applications that are federated with PortalGuard for Single Sign-On (SSO), PortalGuard displays the announcement only when the user is about to receive SSO into the application. This drastically reduces end-user confusion and Help Desk calls when a specific application is offline.
  • Dismissible – When this option is enabled users can suppress announcements. The date & time each user dismissed an announcement is kept until the announcement is deleted from the system.
  • Display on Login Page –The announcement will display  on the PortalGuard login form. Paired applications with PortalGuard through federated SSO automatically pushes users to login through PortalGuard. This is an effective way to notify end users of impending system maintenance/downtime or of critical information that might affect them at present.
